Terminal Warehouse, a historic icon nestled in Manhattan's bustling west side, has stood as a testament to New York City's dynamic spirit since its inception in 1891. Designed by architect George Mallory and on land purchased by industrialist William Wickes Rossiterm, this architectural gem quickly became a vital hub for the city's bustling commerce. Boasting an innovative American Round Arch design, Terminal Warehouse featured a pioneering tunnel that allowed freight trains direct access to its core. Strategically located with easy proximity to the Hudson River and adjacent freight lines along 11th and 12th Avenues, it facilitated the movement of goods with unparalleled efficiency. Fast forward to today, and Terminal Warehouse is in an exciting new era. A $1.25 billion project, approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2020, has injected new energy into this 132-year-old marvel. But what truly captivates the imagination is the transformation happening inside, specifically the modernization of all 21 elevators. United Vertical Group has crafted something extraordinary in collaboration with New Line Structures, Rotavele Elevator, Citywide Elevator Consulting, and CookFox Architects.

The ceilings of these newly designed elevators feature custom aluminum screens, powder-coated in a soft black, that resemble a forest canopy when viewed from below. Illuminated by an Acolyte light panel system diffused through "Milky White" plexiglass, the ceilings create a serene ambiance for passengers. On the side walls, ten panels of low-iron glass, painted in Benjamin Moore's serene "Angelica" hue, are divided by cold-rolled steel powder-coated in a soft black. The back wall, a focal point of each elevator, boasts a large central mirror flanked by matching panels on either side, creating a sense of spaciousness and light. Continuing the sleek design, the doors, reveals, base, and fronts are furnished in cold-rolled steel, maintaining the soft black finish throughout. Complementing these elements, the floors, installed by a skilled third party, feature a sophisticated gray stone, grounding the design in timeless elegance.

Terminal Warehouse's revitalized elevator interiors blend history and modernity—a tribute to its storied past reimagined for the present. As the building embarks on this new chapter, these elevators serve not just as transportation but as a reflection of the enduring legacy of this iconic Manhattan landmark.
