An Ultra-Luxurious NYC Condo Teams up With Top Designers to Create a Stunning Elevator
1 min read
Constructed in 2018, standing at 19-stories, and with 72 units, 222 West 80th Street is an ultra-luxury residential building situated on New York City's Upper West Side. Blocks from The Museum of Natural History and Central Park, this building was developed by Rose Associates and designed by the Stephen B. Jacobs Group. Working alongside Contractor Services, VDA Consultants, and Stephen Alton Architect, together with our partners United Cabs and United Metals, we manufactured and installed the two passenger elevators of this luxurious building.
The elevator interior was engineered with an upper and lower design utilizing only a few thoughtfully chosen materials. The drop ceiling comprises a four-section layout and is furnished with a dark oxidized bronze. Within each section of the ceiling is a Man-D-Tec Solo-Beam downlight. Additional perimeter lighting is recessed above the drop ceiling to create a soft but beautiful halo effect. All upper wall panels, seven in all, are equipped with a stunning Omega 1500PC Bronze wire mesh by GKD Metal Fabrics. However, the back-wall panels pushed our ingenuity to achieve the desired results specified by the architect. Each of these three upper panels features a recessed mirror surrounded by dark oxidized bronze. To create this depth effect, we manufactured a wood core frame, 3" in depth, around the mirror where the wire mesh could be placed. Within the recess, LED strip lighting was placed 2" above the mirror, continuing that halo effect. The lower panels, fronts, reveals, base, and doors are all faced with dark oxidized bronze in a satin finish.
The elevators of 222 West 80th Street are a work of art in their own right. From the creative use of materials to the attention to detail, these elevators will impress anyone who steps inside them. With exquisite craftsmanship and design, they stand out among neighboring buildings and are a true testament to the talent and skill of those involved in their creation.
