776 6th Avenue, formally known as The Capitol Chelsea, offers much more than you would expect from your typical luxury building. It has premium amenities, is situated in a prime location, and has elegant design elements. That being said, the elevators inside The Capitol Chelsea are not just a means of transportation; it's an experience. Working alongside Champion Elevator, D.T.M. Elevator Consultants, and MKDA, our organization was awarded the elevator interior modernization of The Captiol's two-passenger elevator.
The lobby of The Capitol features an earth-tone color palette. It is filled with dimension and texture with the abstract use of White Oak wood slats swaying in and out throughout the area. Large slabs of beautiful Travertine marble greet you in the elevator bank illuminated by modern circular chandeliers. The elevator doors open to reveal a luxurious and contemporary interior that is both modern and timeless. Your eyes are immediately drawn to their centerpiece: a ceiling and back wall made from White Oak hardwood. This creates an uninterrupted flow both in its appearance and the passenger's experience from the lobby to their destination. The ceiling and back wall feature black laminate reveals to add contrast. Looking above, the ceiling features three linear LS1 led lights from Coronet. The ceiling and back wall also features perimeter-led lighting by Man-D-Tec. The luxurious side panels of this elevator are from Porcelanosa. The two "Xlight Haven Bone" pieces featured on each side wall mimic the look and feel of Travertine Marble. They contrast their surroundings beautifully while still following the design cues found in the lobby, adding just enough elegance without sacrificing functionality or beauty. The remainder of the elevator is faced with Stainless Steel and features an "Ocean Caliza" floor by Porcelanosa.
The argument could be made that the elevators at The Capitol represent what's to come in interior design. This hybrid between man-made materials and natural ones is eco-friendly. Moreover, it reflects how advanced technology can be used to create beautiful structures that blend seamlessly with natural products. However, what this elevator design does perfectly is in its execution of cohesion. This cohesion elegantly helps complete a design story that is being told from the moment you first step inside the building until you reach your desired floor.
